Real Madrid president Jorge Valdano has expressed his disappointment at seeing striker Karim Benzema left on the bench against Almeria.
Real Madrid Jorge Valdano has revealed his disappointment at seeing striker Karim Benzema left on the bench in his side's 1-1 draw against Almeria.
The Spanish giants have previously admitted they are keeping their options open in regards to signing a new hitman after the injury and subsequent surgery to Gonzalo Higuain, but the president believed coach Jose Mourinho should have ultilised the Frenchman during the match.
"Ultimately, we are spectators to whatever the coach decides to do," the president said post-match, as reported by Goal.com Spain. "He is a good striker who can give us many options going forward.
"I hope Benzema does not stay on the bench for too long. The situation surrounding him is unfair.
"We will continue to work hard, but perhaps we are distracted by this issue. A lot is written about it by the media," he concluded.
