Dutchman wants former boss as assistant.
Louis van Gaal has confirmed that despite the transfer of Luiz Gustavo, Mark van Bommel will remain captain of Bayern Munich, and sensationally revealed his intent to bring Juergen Klinsmann back to the German club.
"I think van Bommel will be the captain against Wolfsburg," the Dutch coach told Bild ahead of Saturday's Bundesliga restart.
Van Bommel struggled with injuries for most of the first half of the season, and the addition of the 23-year-old Gustavo has raised questions over his future as Bayern captain. He has since been linked with a number of moves abroad, with Milan reportedly interested in acquiring his services.
Additionally, Van Gaal revealed his intent to bring Klinsmann back to Munich to be his assistant.
"Why? Because I want it to happen," he said.
Klinsmann was fired in April 2009 after serving as Bayern's head coach for 10 months.
