Asian Cup 2011: Japan Captain Makoto Hasebe Pleased With Victory Over South Korea

Japan captain Makoto Hasebe may have watched the Samurai Blue progress to the Asian Cup final via the bench, but he is pleased the side has gotten through.
Japan midfielder Makoto Hasebe may have been substituted with only three minutes to go in extra-time, but the captain was pleased the Samurai Blue fired the side through to the Asian Cup final via the penalty spot.

The captain began having cramps in his leg, and had to watch the East Asian fire the spot-kicks from the bench.

"I made sure that I was on the bench when the penalty kicks were being taken, so that I could share the joy with my team-mates," Hasebe was reported as saying to Goal.com Japan.

"We tried to help out our defence as much as we could, as it was our aim during the match.

"I'm glad that a good result has occurred by us winning in the end," he concluded.

Japan now face Australia in the final of the tournament on Saturday.
